WHEN coordinating my providence trip back in october, i had purposely planned for a weekend getaway to newport, rhode island the following weekend...i've missed the continual excitement from constant travel. the chanler, a beautiful hotel & property situated at the very beginning of cliff walk in newport, had invited me to stay and i could not pass up the opportunity.
this was my first time in the storied seaside town and i couldn't have fallen in love harder. although i'm sure newport is at its peak in the summer (read: hydrangeas in full bloom), the new england foliage, historic mansions on bellevue avenue, divine sunsets, and ocean blues certainly did not disappoint. it felt like we had the island to ourselves. my favorite sights were castle hill lighthouse, which you might recognize from moonrise kingdom, morning coffee and strolling on the cliff walk, and the sunset over ocean drive. clarke cooke house for lunch and redwood library & athenaeum were also must-do's.
after a good amount of exploring, the time spent at the chanler was incredible. the louis xvi signature suite was complete with a personal balcony (pictured above), cozy fireplace, and grand canopy bed. drinks in the hotel's handsome bar followed by a late dinner at the spiced pear was also a five star experience. the meal was absolutely terrific and the service was top-notch. if the lobster bisque is on the menu, order it. trust me! thank you to the chanler for a picture-perfect weekend.
